bones: the characters

Here you will find a list of all characters introduced thus far in the series :)

Temperance BrennanDr. Temperance Brennan: is a forensic anthropologist working at the renowned Jeffersonian Institution in Washington, D.C. and a best-selling crime novelist. She is intellectually brilliant, but is narrowly focused on her work, as well as lacking in social skills. She is paired with Special Agent Seeley Booth to work on cases which require both their expertise. He nicknames her "Bones", referring to her job as a forensic anthropologist. She chose her field of research in order to find out what happened to her parents, who vanished without a trace when she was in her teens - leading to an unpleasant time in the foster care system before being rescued by her grandfather. It has been revealed that she has one living brother, Russ. When she was fifteen and Russ was nineteen, their parents went out and never came back. In the first season finale, it was revealed that Temperance Brennan's birth name was Joy Keenan. Her parents were bank robbers who were forced to change their names and go into hiding when they testified against other robbers in their group. Temperance Brennan discovers her mother's remains (which were actually in the Jeffersonian) and finally solves her murder.

Seeley BoothSpecial Agent Seeley Booth: is a former Army sniper with the Rangers, who is currently an agent with the FBI. He frequently consults with Dr. Brennan and her team, acting as a liaison between the FBI and the Jeffersonian institute. When it comes to solving crime, Booth has a very different approach than Dr. Brennan and her team, preferring a more human, interpersonal and intuitive set of methods. While he finds the information Dr. Brennan and her team uncover invaluable, he often finds their means overly convoluted, and restrictive, and adds his intuition and knowledge of people on top of it — something that clashes with Dr. Brennan's hard, objective and analytical approach which is mindful of its own limits. While Booth tries to keep personal and professional life strictly separate, aspects of his personal life leak through. He is a religious man by nature and a practicing Catholic, seeking through the FBI to atone for the lives he took as a sniper by placing other killers behind bars. While in the Army he was apparently tortured and also wounded trying to protect an unarmed comrade, both of which left him with physical scars. He was romantically entangled with a blonde lawyer named Tessa. He also has a four-year old son named Parker with his ex-girlfriend, Rebecca, who seems quite hostile toward Booth for unknown reasons. He has also mentioned having a brother named Jared. He used to have a gambling problem but has since quit.

angelaAngela Montenegro: is a specialist in forensic facial reconstruction at the Jeffersonian Institute, frequently working with Dr. Temperance Brennan, who is her best friend. Although artistic in temperament, she is obviously quite intelligent, developing, maintaining, and improving the lab's 3-dimensional graphics and computer simulation system. Like the other characters in the series, Angela's background is revealed in various subplots as the series progresses. Little is known of her family, although it was revealed that she is the daughter of Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top and that she is half Chinese. Apart from this, and the parade of faces and anecdotes from her love-life, not much is known of her background. It is revealed that at one point, she got married in a fire-water-influenced ceremony in Fiji. She was unsure whether the marriage "stuck" (was legal) and has no knowledge of where her husband is now.

HodginsJack Stanley Hodgins: is one of the more sarcastic members of the group. He seems to have had a dislike for Goodman's way of working (former director of the Jeffersonian Institute), but gets along much better with Cam, the new director. He is sometimes "the funny man" with a notable impression of Booth in Season One. He is one of the more normal persons in the group, and helps teach Zach how to be socially normal. His family is extremely wealthy and affluent - and happens to be the single largest donor to the Jeffersonian Institute; they own the Cantilever Group, the third largest privately owned corporation in the United States, and Jack is their sole heir. Jack wishes for his current occupation to remain concealed from his family as he fears they will prevent him from pursuing his career. Booth, Zach and Angela knew about his family, but respected his wishes to keep it from Brennan. However, as of "Aliens in a Spaceship", Brennan knows of Hodgins' family and riches. In the episode "Two Bodies in the Lab" he is shown driving a Mini Cooper.

zachZachary Uriah "Zach" Addy: comes from a large Michigan family (with three brothers and four sisters), Zach is a former child prodigy, a genius with an I.Q. well above 163 and a supposed photographic memory. He has started two doctorates, one in Forensic Anthropology, which he has completed, and one in Engineering, which he has yet to finish. His specialty, like Dr. Brennan, is in the analysis of remains, especially identifying cause of death and weapons from marks remaining on skeletal remains. It is usually his task to remove the flesh from the bones, a process known as debriding. Because of his tremendous intellect, he has a strong broad-based knowledge of many of the specialties in the Jeffersonian lab. Zach 's only friend seems to be Jack Hodgins, with whom it was once thought he was roommates. In fact, he rents from and also carpools with Jack, since he can't drive, simply because he refuses to learn. He once stated that the number of gruesome car crashes that he has seen have caused him to be afraid of even the idea of driving.

zachDr. Camille Saroyan: was introduced in the second season to replace the character of Goodman as Brennan's superior. As a pathologist, her working style clashes with Brennan's and the two often have disagreements. The tension between them stems from Cam's authoritativeness and a previous relationship she had with Booth. As the series progresses, Cam and Brennan become more respectful of each other.

goodmanDr. Daniel Goodman: is the director of the Jeffersonian Institution and a former archaeologist. He appeared in the first season only.
