To Catch A Pirate, Jade Parker |

Although the book does have it's high points, I thought it was rather dull and not able to keep me all that interested. The story line was interesting but I think the author could have put more into it. Maybe with a little more back story on each of the characters it could have flowed a bit better. I also had a bit of a problem with the ending. It seemed to jump around and then all of a sudden it was over. Not one of the best YA books out there. |
Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood| Book 1), J.R. Ward |

Publisher: Signet; 2005 Genre: Paranormal / Fantasy Romance Pages: 416 Rating:

I loved this book. Ward hit it right out of the park for her debut novel. It had a bit of everything, action, romance, tears, it was just amazing. In this first novel of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, we follow Beth (currently human) as her story starts to unfold. She's about to go through "the change" (transforming her into a vampire) and her father was just blown to bits. As the king of his race, and the leader of the BDB, Wrath swore that he would help her through it. Thinking that when the change was done, he could just shed her off onto another male. What he didn't know was how much he would fall for her and how much he was willing to sacrifice. Their shared passion is something that anyone would hope for. This book drew me in from the start and I can not wait to pick up the second novel in this series. |
Goddess of the Sea (Goddess Summoning| Book 1), P.C. Cast |

This is the first book in the Goddess Summoning series. I thought that this was a great start to the series. It was very passionate and it really made you feel connected to the main character. When an accident finds CC traveling back through time in the middle ages, she finds out that she is no longer human. Her soul has exchanged with the Princess Undine, mermaid of the sea. She asks the Goddess Gaea to be turned back into a human woman. However, in order to keep her human body, she needs to find true love. After awhile CC finds herself in love with a merman and longs to be with him as well as the sea. The love between Dylan (merman) & CC is so beautiful and fulfilling. By the end of the book I was literally in tears (so heart wrenching)! Overall a great read. I highly recommend this book. Like the author says, every woman has a bit of a goddess in her ;) |
Metro Girl (Alex Barnaby Series #1), Janet Evanovich |

I thought I would give this book a try since I am in love with the authors 'Stephanie Plum' Novels. This book was some what similar to those, except for the characters and the general consensus of the story itself. It had the same humor as the Plum novels and it was just an all around fun read. The main character "Barney" (whose name is really Alexandra), was more of a get it done girl, with a background of mechanics. When a situation arises where she needs to step up, she does just that. It's the heroine's turn to save the day. No damsel's in distress here. Well ok, maybe once or twice. I'm planning on picking up the next book in the series some time soon :) |
Marked (Book 1), P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast |
|

Publisher: St. Martin\'s Griffin; 2007 Genre: Mystery| Sci-Fi| Fantasy| Horror Pages: 306 Rating:

It started off very slowly, but by the middle it seemed to pick up and really catch my attention. Not as good as some of the other vampire series out there, but I think it's off to a good start. The main character, Zoey is "marked" and chosen by the Goddess Nyx to become a vampire. Zoey is very different from other fledglings (newcomers) in that she has the power over the five elements and is drawn to human blood more then the others that have just been marked. I really liked following her on her new journey and I am going to grab the second book when it comes out in October. If you, like me, enjoy reading young adult vampire novels then you should give this series a try. |
Eclipse, Stephenie Meyer |

Publisher: Little| Brown Young Readers; 2007 Genre: Romance/Fantasy Pages: 627 Rating:

Just as good as the first two! I sincerely enjoyed this book. There was a ton of emotion and it really made you react towards the characters. As Stephenie Meyer put it in a recent interview, this book was about choosing true love, and we do follow Bella on that path. You yourself feel torn between the two men in her life (Edward & Jacob) because they are both good for her and want nothing more then to protect her and love her. In the end, Bella can only choose one, and at first it was a simple answer. Edward. That was all she wanted. Now her feelings for Jacob rush to the surface and it pulls at her as she doesn't want to let go of him. Jacob was her sun when her world was dimmed with Edward's departure. That friendship turned into something more, although Bella just realizing it now. However, Bella's heart was always in one place and she chose her path to immortality to be with Edward. Which by doing so left Jacob, brokenhearted. What is to become of Edward & Bella. How much time does she exactly have? And what happens to Jacob? I can't wait to read her final installment next fall! |

Amazing from start to finish. We get to see Bella interact with others (besides vampires) and form a new bond with another 'special' boy, Jacob. Edward seems to slip out for a good chunk of the book, which leaves Bella to figure out things without him. I enjoyed the interaction between Bella and Jacob. Having that friendship pulled Bella back out of her hole (for a short time). He was her 'safe-harbor'. I'm really hoping that we see more of these two in the future. Another incredible book in a fantastic series. I am really looking forward to reading the third installment, Eclipse. With these books you just can't lose! |

An amazing start to a new series. I wasn't really sure what I was going to think of this novel, but I was really surprised. Once I got started I didn't want to put it down. The characters, the romance; everything about this book is extraordinary. Her take on the vampire myths is intriguing to say the least. Meyer hit it out of the park for her first novel and I am looking forward to reading more from her. |
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, J.K. Rowling |

Publisher: Arthur A. Levine Books; 2007 Genre: Pages: 784 Rating:

A fantastic conclusion to a wonderful, exciting series. It took me awhile to complete it, but it was worth it. The last book had a bit of everything from happiness to sadness. I really don't want to give to much away for those who have not read the book yet, but I do have to say that it was amazing. While I think Rowling could have left out the epilogue (which in my opinion created an angle in which there could me many more stories to come), I thought that the characters had some closure. I'm still wishing that one day she'll [Rowling] change her mind and come back to the fandom, wanting to write more. |
Greywalker (Greywalker| Book 1), Kat Richardson |
|
|
Publisher: Roc Trade; 2006 Genre: Mystery/Thriller Pages: 352 Rating:

For the first in the series, I thought it was pretty good. It was more or less setting you up for the other books to come. In this novel, you followed the main character, Harper, through her struggle of becoming a 'Greywalker'. One who travels to "a place between our world and the next." You also come to the understanding of how she is feeling and how much she goes through discovering her new abilities. It starts off a bit slow, but picks up towards the middle. It deals with ghosts and vampires, so if your a fan of either, you might enjoy this book/series. |
Goddess of Light (Goddess Summoning| Book 3), P.C. Cast |
|
|
Publisher: Berkley; 2005 Genre: Fantasy/Romance Pages: 352 Rating:

Not as great as "Goddess of the Rose", but it was still pretty decent. I liked the background of the Greek mythology the book had to offer. Cast definitely did her homework with referring to the old ways. Although I don't know my mythology, the detail she gave for the simplest things was incredible. The romance between the two main characters (Apollo/Phoebus & Pamela) was intriguing and fun to read. I enjoyed Cast's rendition of finding your soul mate. The one thing that I was most disappointed in was the ending. I would have liked it to end on a different level then what it did. |
Lean Mean Thirteen, Janet Evanovich |

I have several mixed feelings and felt that the book seemed a bit off. I did enjoy it, however I didn't feel like this was her best. While I enjoyed the banter between Joe/Stephanie and Stephanie/Ranger, the whole Dickie disappearance was kind of a downer. Although I liked the bickering between Dickie and Stephanie (it was a hoot), I didn't really care for the whole storyline itself. Another fact that I enjoyed about this book was the relationship that seems to be growing between Tank and Lula. Lula is just one of my favorite characters and she has transformed so much from the first book. It's really great to see her evolve. (Plus it was really funny to learn that Tank's real name is Pierre!) I'm still torn between who I essentially would like to see Stephanie end up with, but I would like to see it all come around in book fourteen. Maybe one more night with Ranger will make up her mind? Or perhaps a proposal from Joe? I'd also like to see Stephanie kick Joyce's rear into the ground. That would put a smile to my face. |
One for the Money, Janet Evanovich |

I was given this book as a Christmas present, and just got around to reading it recently. I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed it. It's the first in the very popular Stephanie Plum series. It follows Stephanie as she becomes a bounty hunter, working for her cousin. It's really funny and you won't want to put it down! |
If Only It Were True, Marc Levy |

This is the book the movie, "Just Like Heaven" was based off of. I have to say, the book is much better. There is so much more to learn about the characters, and like the movie, it's about this girl who get's in an accident and is in a coma. She appears as a ghost to the man who is now living in her apartment. He agrees to help her, and in the end they fall in love. If you get a chance read the book! |
